The role of diet in the determinism of chronic diseases, like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, some cancers, osteoporosis and obesity, underlines the necessity for regular nutrition monitoring. In France, a national nutrition and health program (PNNS) has been implemented in 2001 and plan the surveillance of the nutritional status of the french population. The aim of the present paper was to describe the nutrients intake in the SU.VI.MAX study (involving French adults) from 1995 to 2002. The statistical analysis show that total energy intake and total fat intake (%) decreased during this period of follow-up whereas carbohydrates intake (%) increased. However, simple sugars intake (%) decreased and saturated fat (% of total fat) increased. In terms of micronutrients intake, prevalence of inadequate intake (0,66 of Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA)) for vitamin C, calcium, magnesium has not changed. Prevalence of inadequate intakes for vitamin E and A has decreased.
