Hydroxyapatite nanoribbon spherulites have been successfully synthesized, with the bioactive eggshell membrane as directing template and in the presence of ethylenediamine, in a one-step reaction under mild conditions. The spherulites are about 2.5 mu m in diameter and the extended nanoribbon about 1.1 mu m long. The spherulites were modified with fluorescein to obtain a fluorescent probe material with strong luminescence. ((c) Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2005).
