High-power alkaline Zn-MnO2 batteries with superior discharge performance have been constructed using gamma-MnO2 nanowires/nanotubes (see Figure) and electrolytic zinc powder as the cathode and anode active materials, respectively. The improvement in discharge performance over commercial batteries is believed to be derived from the lower inner resistance of the batteries and the high utilization efficiency of the active materials.
