Gas sensors based on polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-modified ZnO nanoparticle with different molar ratios of Zn2+: PVP were prepared by a sol-gel method. Morphology of the sensors was characterized by field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), which indicated that the sensor with a molar ratio of Zn2+: PVP = 5:5 showed uniform morphology. Moreover, the sensor exhibited fairly excellent sensitivity and selectivity to trimethylamine (TMA). The response and recovery time of the sensor were 10 and 150 s, respectively, Finally. the mechanism for the improvement in the gas sensing properties was discussed. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
