A gradient of crystallization was observed in the microstructure of Cu46Zr54 due to cooling through the use of transmission electron microscopy. The micrographs suggest that the observed plasticity in CuZr alloys is not caused by partial crystallization but rather a yet unknown internal feature of the glass. (c) 2005 Acta Materialia Inc.
