Methane cracking on a 5-wt% Ni/gamma-Al2O3 was studied in a thermobalance. Results showed that the faster rates for carbon deposition obtained at high temperatures (600-650 degrees C) are accompanied by faster deactivation. A similar trend was observed for lower initial masses of catalyst (0.1-0.2 g). Finally, a method of partial gasification was proposed as a promising route for catalyst regeneration.
