The effect of alloying on phase transformation temperatures and occurrence of magnetoplasticity in Ni-Mn-Ga-X (X = Si, In, Co, Fe) alloys is investigated. The applied alloying has a strong effect on the transition temperatures and crystal structure of martensite. A 3.5% magnetoplastic shear strain at 333 K is achieved in a single crystalline Ni-Mn-Ga-Fe alloy. (c) 2006 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
