The present work reported the successful preparation of CdS/polyacrylonitrile (CdS/PAN) nanocomposites in an ethanol solution via using gamma-irradiation technique at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. Acrylonitrile (AN), CS2 and CdCl2 center dot 2.5H(2)O were used as raw materials. Ethanol is chosen as the solvent. XRD analyses showed that the crystallinity of US was affected by some factors such as the amount of the organic component in the composites and the dose of irradiation. The optical properties of nanocomposites were also investigated. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
