As a new absorbent for carbon dioxide, sodium glycinate (SG) was investigated in this study. The solubilities of CO2 expressed as loading capacity (mol CO2/mol SG) in aqueous 10, 20, and 30 mass% sodium glycinate solutions were measured experimentally at 303.15, 313.15, and 323.15 K over the partial pressure of carbon dioxide ranging from 0.1 to 200 kPa in an equilibrium cell. It was found that CO2 solubility increases with decrease in concentration of sodium glycinate solution and with decrease in temperature. It also increases with an increase in partial pressure of CO for the pressure range studied. The CO2 Solubility in 10 mass% sodium glycinate solutions was found to be better than other aqueous absorbents such as MEA, AEPD, AMPD, and TIPA. The net amount Of CO2 absorbed by 20 and 30 mass% sodium glycinate solution was almost same. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
