Dimethylamylamine (DMAA) was a forgotten pharmaceutical that was patented in 1944 as a nasal decongestant. DMAA has recently gained popularity as a dietary supplement, with claims of effectiveness as an athletic performance enhancer and weight loss aid. It is also sold as a recreational stimulant drug. DMAA is a sympathomimetic and potent pressor agent. This report describes 3 cases of cerebral hemorrhage in adults after the use of DMAA. The status of this substance as a synthetic or naturally occurring compound is also discussed. [Ann Emerg Med. 2012;60:431-434.]
