Elimination of organic compounds by local clays. Sediments of dam (mud) underwent acidic activation by ammonium chloride; the synthesized material was characterized by DRX. In a first stage, the material is used like adsorbent of phenol and of a red stain used in the industry of textile, from aquous solutions; in a second stage, it is used in the treatment of waste water descended directly from the industry of textile, containing phenol. A similar study has been achieved while also using local clay, the bentonite acidified by the sulfuric acid as comparison. The isotherms of adsorption of the phenol and the red stain on these materials showed big adsorbent-adsorbate affinities. The activated silt proves to be a best adsorbent for the red dye compared to the acidified bentonite; on the other hand, the acidified bentonite has more affinity towards the phenol, with a limit capacity of adsorption equal to 32.23 mg/g. The two materials were used in the treatment of a dismissal of the textile industry; one notices a decrease in the DCO as well as of other parameters of pollution, as the concentration of phenol.
