The calcium rhodate CaRhO3, which crystallizes in a perovskite structure, was synthesized for the first time. Critical conditions as such high-temperature and high-pressure were found essential to the synthesis. Electrical resistivity measurement and SQUID magnetometry on the polycrystalline sample revealed it is electrically conducting as well as SrRhO3 and there is neither magnetic transition nor superconductivity above 1.8 K. This compound would offer an opportunity for research into nature of the 4d strongly correlated electrons system. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
