Broadband dielectric spectroscopy on ultrathin organic layers having one free (upper) interface

Using silica colloids as nanospacers and ultraflat highly conductive silicon wafers as electrodes, a novel experimental approach is demonstrated, which, in combination with broadband dielectric spectroscopy, enables one to investigate the molecular dynamics in ultrathin organic layers having one free interface. This opens a manifold of possibilities, including dielectric studies on isolated molecules.
