High-entropy alloys (HE alloys) are composed of at least five major metallic elements, as opposed to traditional alloy systems that are typically based on only one or two major elements. Dependent upon their composition and/or processing route, HE alloys have been found to possess a wide range of microstructures and properties. Some of them exhibit promising properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, chemical inertness and high-temperature softening resistance. By exploiting their merits, properly-designed HE alloys are developed with an aim to replace traditional alloys in specific applications. This paper describes the current status of several industrial applications of HE alloys.
