A giant current-to-voltage (I-V) gyration effect was found in magnetostrictive Tb1-xDyxFe2-y and piezoelectric Pb(Zr,Ti)O-3 laminated composites. An equivalent circuit theory was developed for magnetoelectric gyration, which predicted that I-V conversion is reduced by a frequency transfer function Z(R)(f) and that the maximum occurs at resonance. A giant conversion coefficient up to 2500 V/A was predicted and confirmed. (c) 2006 American Institute of Physics.
