Ionic liquids were effectively used as solvents in palladium catalysed aminocarbonylation of 17-iodo-5 alpha-androst-16-ene (1) with L-amino acid esters. The Pd(OAc)(2) + phosphine catalysts could be recirculated with small loss of activity.
