A novel phosphor, NaEu(MoO4)(2), co-doped with Bi3+ ions and Sm3+ ions was prepared by solid-state reaction technique, and its photoluminescent properties were investigated. The introducing of Bi3+ ions and Sm3+ ions broadened the excitation band of the phosphor NaEu(MoO4)(2) and enhanced the emission intensity of Eu3+ under 395/405 nm light excitation. The emission of the phosphor shows very good CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage, International Commission on Illumination) chromaticity coordinates (x = 0.66, y = 0.34). The phosphor may be applied in fabrication of phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (LEDs). (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
