Ectopic ossification of the triceps muscle after application of bone morphogenetic protein-7 to the distal humerus for recalcitrant nonunion: A case report

We report a case of triceps muscle ectopic ossification and resultant elbow stiffness after application of recombinat human bone morphogenetic protein to a distal humerus non-union site. We recommend caution when using this product in the upper extremity in regions where there is close approximation of soft tissue to bone and where loss of motion would be problematic.
