Claude S. Fischer's survey of social networks in northern California was transposed to the Toulouse area of southwestern France. This article compares the results obtained in this new Toulouse study with Fischer's findings. It finds somewhat larger networks but similar heterogeneity. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
