Direct arylation of simple arenes with ferrocenyl oxazolines was achieved in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of Pd(OAC)(2) or a catalytic amount of palladium with excess oxidant such as Cu(OAC)(2). This double sp(2) C-H activation process provides a unique access to the aryl-substituted ferrocene derivatives, even in the enantiopure form of planar chirality, in a few steps from readily available starting materials.
