Bimetallic nanoparticles composed of Ag and Pt have been prepared by the successive reduction of AgNO3 and H2PtCl6 solutions with hydrazine. The hollow interior structure and bimetallic nature of the nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. It is shown that the surface plasmon resonance peaks of these bimetallic nanoparticles could be tuned across the visible spectrum region with the increased volumes of the H2PtCl6 solutions used.
