Enhanced anatase-to-rutile phase transformation without exaggerated particle growth in nanostructured titania-tin oxide composites

Through the use of titania-tin oxide nanocomposites, an enhanced anatase-to-rutile phase transformation is achieved, while avoiding appreciable particle growth. Upon the addition of SnO2, the phase transformation temperature fell, reaching a minimum value at IS vol.% of tin oxide, before increasing. Neither anatase nor rutile phase particles showed exaggerated growth. SnO2 particles demonstrated both transformation-enhancing and growth-retarding roles. (c) 2007 Acta Materialia Inc.
