This paper applies the variational iteration method to the regularized long wave equation. In this method, a generalized Lagrange multiplier is introduced to construct a correction functional for the discussed problem. The multiplier can be identified optimally via variational theory. Three invariants of the motion are evaluated to determine the conservation properties of the system. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
