Carbon nanotubes are assembled into dense, vertically aligned arrays on substrates by using capillary forces. Modulating the interactions between the nanotubes and the underlying substrate provides control over the assembly of the nanotube array; capillary forces can either cause bending (left) or translation (right) of the array. The use of this densification strategy enables a four-fold increase in current density through nanotube arrays.
