Electric-field generation due to the inverse spin-Hall effect (ISHE) driven by spin pumping was detected and separated experimentally from the extrinsic magnetogalvanic effects in a Ni81Fe19/Pt film. By applying a sample-cavity configuration in which the extrinsic effects are suppressed, the spin pumping using ferromagnetic resonance gives rise to a symmetric spectral shape in the electromotive force spectrum, indicating that the motive force is due entirely to ISHE. This method allows the quantitative analysis of the ISHE and the spin-pumping effect. The microwave-power dependence of the ISHE amplitude is consistent with the prediction of a direct current-spin-pumping scenario. (C) 2007 American Institute of Physics.
