The first dinuclear bis(mercaptoimidazolyl)methane metal complex, the lead(II) derivative [Pb-2(Bmm(Me))(5)](CIO4)(4), has been prepared and fully characterized using a combination of analytical and spectroscopic techniques. X-ray crystallography confirmed the presence in the solid state of two dicationic [Pb(Bmm(Me))(2)](2+) fragments bridged by the fifth Bmm(Me) ligand, which uses an unprecedented unidentate:bidentate (mu-kappa(1)-S:kappa(2)-S,S) coordination mode to link the two metal centers.
