Improve the hydrogen production from the conversion of renewable resources such as biomass is a real challenge in the context of the production of clean and efficient energy. By biomass steam gasification, H-2 is produced with significant amounts of CO2, CH4 and heavy, toxic and complex aromatic molecules called tars. This work focuses on the production of hydrogen by tar steam reforming with in-situ CO2 capture. A catalytic bifunctional material Fe/CaO-Ca12Al14O33 where the iron phases favour the H-2 production and the CaO-Ca12Al14O33 phase simultaneously captures CO2 during several cycles of carbonation-decarbonation was developed. This bi-functional material was active for both tar steam reforming and Water Gas Shift reactions enhanced by in-situ CO2 capture. Copyright (C) 2015, Hydrogen Energy Publications, LLC.
