A simple webcam spectrograph

A spectrometer is constructed with an optical fiber, a webcam, and an inexpensive diffraction grating. Assembly takes a matter of minutes, and the instrument is able to produce quantitative spectra of incandescent and fluorescent sources, lasers, and light-emitting diodes. Examples of data analyses, carried out with free software, are discussed. (C) 2014 American Association of Physics Teachers.
