Although gastroenterologists strongly believe that colonoscopy lowers colorectal cancer mortality, evidence in support of this belief is indirect. A new study from Ontario reports that individuals living in regions where there is more colonoscopy have lower colorectal cancer mortality. There may be factors other than colonoscopy that explain the association.
