Asymmetric Hydrogenation of α,β-Unsaturated Ester-Phosphonates

The rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of readily available alpha,beta-unsaturated ester-phosphonates affords the corresponding alpha-chiral phosphonates in excellent yield and ee. The resulting products are useful multifunctional building blocks applied in the synthesis of physiologically active compounds.
