Well-faceted MgO nanorods synthesized by the thermal evaporation of Mg3N2 are sheathed with TiO2, resulting in ultraintense blue-green luminescence. Intense emissions with a variety of wavelengths, ranging from the ultraviolet to the infrared, may be possible by sheathing MgO nanorods with a semiconducting material of optimal thickness.
