Investigation of Fe doping on the magnetic and optical properties of ZnO thin films

The structural, magnetic and optical properties of Fe-doped ZnO thin films dip coated on glass substrates were probed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and Ellipsometer. The XRD spectra showed the polycrystalline nature of films with preferred orientation along the a-axis. The transmittance of the Fe doped ZnO thin films decreased with increase in the doping percentage of Fe. The band gap, derived with the aid of measured transmittance curves, of Fe doped ZnO thin film was increased from 3.94 eV to 4.00 eV when Fe percentage was increased in ZnO. Thin films possessed room temperature magnetism.
