In this study, a comprehensive microstructure analysis was carried out to determine the solidification behavior of Inconel-713LC gas turbine blades under a variety of cooling conditions during electron beam welding (EBW). An empirical correlation between the secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) in the fusion zone and cooling rate was established. Additionally, liquation was observed in the heat affected zone (HAZ), which is induced by the segregation of elements at the grain boundaries. (C) 2017 The Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
