Pose, expression and illumination variation are some challenges in face verification research area. When lighting condition changes, the appearance of a face varies intensely. In this paper, an illumination normalization method for face verification under various lighting conditions is presented. In the proposed approach, 2D wavelet is applied on the Yale database B and XM2VTS human face databases for illumination normalization in face verification. The performance of the method under illumination variations is improved compared to other pervious methods. Moreover, this procedure is very effective to compensate the shadows and also is very simple and it implements easily in real-time face verification system. (C) 2012 The Authors.
