Recent advances in the catalytic decomposition of NO have been overviewed and divided into three categories: metal oxide catalysts (including perovskites and rare earth oxides), supported metal oxide catalysts (including alkali metals, cobalt oxide and noble metals) and Cu-ZSM-5. These have been compared in terms of catalytic activity and the tolerance of coexisting gases (including O-2, H2O, and CO2). Influencing factors, such as number of oxygen vacancies, spatial structure, catalyst supports, preparation methods, doping of metal elements, reaction conditions and so on, on the performance of catalysts have also been explored. Finally, the advantages and existing problems of various catalytic materials that are used in catalytic decomposition reactions of NO have been summarized, and the future development of nitric oxide decomposition has been discussed.
