Present status of the double beta decay calculations within the microscopic Interacting Boson Model

This work gives a brief introduction to the double beta decay processes which became popular in the last time as a tool to unveil new physics. The IBM-2 calculation of several kinds of nuclear matrix elements involved in the half lives of a list of selected nuclei is described, as well as the effect of the Short Range Correlations. The role of these quantities is emphasized in the derivation of the absolute mass scale of the neutrino.
