Information about bioaccumulation and tissue distribution of antibiotics in wild marine fish is still limited. In the present study, tissue levels, bioaccumulation and distribution patterns of 9 sulfonamide (SA), trimethoprim (TMP), 5 fluoroquinolone (FQ), and 4 macrolide (ML) antibiotics were investigated in gill, muscle, kidney, and liver tissues of seven wild fish species collected from Laizhou Bay, North China in 2016. All the 19 antibiotics were detected in these fish tissues with the total concentrations ranging from 22 ng/g dry weight (dw) to 500 ng/g dw. The mean values of logarithm bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) in the gills, muscles, kidneys, and livers ranged from 2.2 to 4.8, 1.9 to 4.0, 2.5 to 4.9, and 2.5 to 5.4, respectively. Log BAPS of antibiotics in these tissues significantly increased (r = 0.61-0.77, p < 0.001) with their logarithm values of liposome-water distribution coefficient (D-lipw) except in the muscles, suggesting that D-lipw can well assess the bioaccumulation potentials of antibiotics in phospholipid-rich tissues. In general, the SAs. TMP, and FQs were primarily accumulated in the muscles and the MLs were primarily in the livers, which may be related to their toxicokinetic processes of these marine fish. The present study for the first time reported the tissue distribution patterns of antibiotics in wild marine fish. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
