In this study, the effects of magnesium composition and the external electric field on the optical absorption coefficient lineshape and intersubband transitions in MgxZn(1-x)O/ZnO quantum well are studied. We calculate the confining potential, energy levels and their corresponding wavefunctions by solving the Schrodinger-Poisson equations self consistently. Our theoretical findings show that the intersubband transitions Delta E-12, Delta E-13 and Delta E-23 are sensitive to the applied external electric field. Especially, we have found that the forbidden optical absorption coefficient alpha(23)(omega) becomes possible by increasing the electric field. In addition it is found that for a specific value of the applied electric field, we obtain an intersection between the two intersubband transitions Delta E-12 and Delta E-23 which is very useful for the design and fabrication of the optical photodetectors.
