I was awakened early on December 25, 2016, by our young dog, who does not appreciate the concept of sleeping in on holidays and who loves taking long morning walks, especially in cold weather. As we crossed the bridge over a nearby pond, I noted neurons embedded in the ice along the shore. Nature's present for a neurologist on a freezing morning dog walk. A multipolar neuron (upper left), a Purkinje-like neuron (upper right), and a pyramidal neuron (bottom). The oak leaves fortuitously included in each photograph provide perspective on size of the neurons.
