Polyaniline (PANI) and its composite with leaves of Alstonia scholaris (PANI/AL) was synthesized utilizing aniline by chemical oxidative polymerization via using hydrated ferric chloride which is an oxidizer. Characterization of these polymers was done by UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopy. Adsorption of diamond green (DG) dye from aqueous solution was systematically investigated using PANI and PANI/AL as adsorbents in this research work. Contact time, pH, adsorbent dose, and temperature are the several effects which were studied in batch mode. Adsorption process was investigated by visible spectrophotometer as lambda(max) of the diamond green dye was found to be 628 nm. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms show the monolayer homogenous and multilayer heterogeneous adsorption respectively. Maximum monolayer homogeneous adsorption capacity of PANI for removal of diamond green dye was found to be 0.911 mg/g and that of PANI/AL is 8.130 mg/g and multilayer heterogeneous physiosorption calculated 0.138 mg/g for PANI, and 0.947 mg/g for PANI/AL. Electrostatic interaction, pi-pi interaction and hydrogen bonding are the intermolecular forces responsible for the adsorption of diamond green dye by PANI and PANI/AL which covers physiosorption and chemisorption modes of adsorption.
