Buildings play an important role in the energy consumption sector as reports from the US Department of Energy (DOE) declare that most of the electricity usage in USA attributed to the buildings. To improve the energy quality of this important area, novel technologies and operation methods are being industrialized every day. Combined Cooling Heating and Power (CCHP) systems are one of the most advanced technologies to satisfy all thermal/cooling and electrical demands, integrating Distributed Generation (DG) units, heat recovery system, and refrigeration equipment. To coordinate scheduling of CCHP with Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) and renewable units, a reliable Energy Management System (EMS) needs to be developed. It is assumed that smart meters collect measured data from different devices. However, refining and processing this data seems necessary before utilizing into the EMS. This paper presents a Smart EMS (SEMS) for application in a residential Micro-Grid (MG) with high penetration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) including a CCHP system. The optimization problem is solved with objective of minimizing the building's energy operation costs for both deterministic and stochastic case studies. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed SEMS in altered case studies for different days. It is also shown that the application of CCHP equipped with a smart controller could reduce the operating cost significantly. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
