Monodispersed single-crystalline LiMnPO4 nanobelts and nanorods were successfully prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. On the basis of the experimental results, a possible mechanism for the formation of the monodispersed LiMnPO4 nanobelts and nanorods was proposed. Compared with our previously proposed flowerlike, stamenlike LiMnPO4/C nanostructures self-assembled with (010) nanosheets and [001] nanorods, the corresponding monodispersed nanoparticles show enhanced electrochemical performances due to the full carbon coating along the surface. Moreover, because of the narrowed size along [100], the LiMnPO4@C nanorods exhibit a much higher discharge capacity compared with that of the LiMnPO4@C nanobelts.
