We investigated the fluorescence enhancement behavior of AIE (Aggregation Induced Emission) - active dyes on a clay nanosheet. Judging from their adsorption observation on the clay in water, the factor for the fluorescence enhancement turned out not to be AIE, but is to be a Surface-Fixation Induced Emission (S-FIE) mechanism. While the effect of AIE depended on the molecular structure of dye in water-dioxane, S-FIE worked even for dye with a bulky substituent.
