A micro-nano structure with metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) effect was constructed through a controllable assembly of the core-shell Ag@SiO2 nanoparticles on polystyrene microspheres. Such a unique structure makes it possible to regulate the plasmon coupling of Ag nanoparticles by simply tailoring the size of the Ag core and the thickness of the SiO2 shell. The experimental and theoretical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of this micro-nano structure in an MEF field, and thus provide an approach to fabricate Ag nanocomposite materials with high fluorescence enhancement factors.
