In this paper we examine several types of attacks on Internet of Things (IoT) to determine if packet drop and energy consumption parameters can be a useful parameter in detecting those attacks on IoT. Current approaches to detect IoT attacks use many different parameters that require a great deal of overhead while this study aims to examine system parameters that can be utilized to detect the attacks in IoT effectively. To address this, simulations of several common threat models for IoT are implemented and parameter data is collected and analyzed. Results indicate that packet loss can be a useful parameter for both Sinkhole with Selective Forwarding attacks and Denial of Service attacks, while energy consumption can be a useful parameter for Denial of Service attacks.
