Linear scan voltammetry of surface immobilized redox couples provides a convenient tool to explore intermolecular interactions at electrified interfaces, particularly in the case of electrodes modified with thiol monolayers. The availability of a great variety of thiols, together with the development of self-assembly techniques, offer the possibility to modulate in advance the main sources of the redox probe intermolecular interactions, i.e. its molecular neighbors and its spatial location with respect to the electrode surface. In this report, we summarize some of the most relevant work that has recently been published on the use of linear scan voltammetry to assess the role of intermolecular interactions in the energetics of surface immobilized redox probes.
