Following the recent discovery of a Sillen-Aurivillius perovskite Bi4NbO8Cl with a stable photocatalytic activity for water oxidation under visible light, we studied a structurally related intergrowth compound Bi6NbWO14Cl. It also works as a stable O-2-evolving photocatalyst in a Z-scheme water splitting system, but has a slightly wider band gap than that in Bi4NbO8Cl. These results suggest the importance of the Sillen-Aurivillius framework, offering possible band gap tuning by varying structural motifs and their sequence in the Sillen-Aurivillius-related systems.
