Molybdenum-nitride complexes bearing pincer ligands have been designed, prepared, and characterized spectroscopically. The synthetic method described in this paper provides a convenient and useful approach to the preparation of cationic molybdenum(V)-nitride complexes that may act as catalysts for the formation of ammonia from molecular dinitrogen under ambient reaction conditions..
