In this work, a predictive machining theory, taking into account the thermo-visco-plastic response of the work material, is applied to the end milling process. In order to consider the particular conditions of end-milling operation, when the uncut chip thickness becomes in range of the cutting edge radius, the cutting edge effect has been also introduced. The proposed model appears as an interesting alternative to the mechanistic approach which requires many experimental tests to determine the milling cutting force coefficients. The predicted cutting forces are in good agreement with experimental data for dry machining of Inconel 718. (C) 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
