This study aims to realize the performance improvement and optimum control of alumina/nickel laminated composites based on the regulation of macro/micro structures. Alumina/nickel laminated composites with transition and textured interfaces were fabricated to illustrate the fracture nature of the composites. Results show that the interfacial bonding strength, the state of residual stress, the interlocking function among particles and layers can be significantly improved by introducing transition and textured interfaces. The fracture toughness, bending strength and work of fracture of this newly-developed alumina/nickel laminated composites could reach 549 MPa, 15.7 MPa m(1/2) and 2936 J m(-2), which are 1.2 times, 1.9 times and 5.5 times higher than those of the laminated composite with smooth interface, respectively.
